Maple Syrup Festivals Near Toronto

March means it’s time to “tap” into spring! Visiting a sugar shack is pretty much a right of passage for Canadians. Hitch a wagon ride, learn about the history of “sugaring-off” and settle in for some hot pancakes slathered with real maple syrup.
Mountsberg Conservation Maple Town
Mountsberg Conservation in Hamilton has been producing maple syrup for almost 150 years. As the winter thaws, approximately 600 trees will be tapped, the sap simmered in large kettles until it’s transformed into sweet syrup. Maple Town sells hot pancakes and there are guided wagon rides through the sugar bush. Once you’ve had your fill of syrup, check out Mountsberg’s Raptor Centre, for daily birds of prey demonstrations.

Where: Mountsberg Conservation, 2259 Milburough Line, Hamilton, ON
When: February 25 – April 2, 2017.

Kortright Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival
Kortright Centre for Conservation is a 325 hectares oasis of woodlands, right in Toronto’s backyard. The Sugarbush Maple Syrup Festival includes wagon rides, hiking along the trails, demonstrations and a pancake breakfast. There are special family-fun activities planned for weekends and throughout March Break.

You can also take a special guided tour of Kortright’s maple sugar bush at twilight on Saturday, March 11 and March 18. You’ll get to visit the sugar shack, learn old and new methods of making maple syrup and warm up by the campfire. Advance booking required.

Where: Kortright Centre for Conservation, 9550 Pine Valley Dr, Woodbridge, ON
When: March 4 – April 2, 2017.

Brooks Farms Maple Syrup Festival
A family-owned farm since 1875, Brooks Farm’s Maple Syrup Festival runs sugar bush tours through the farm’s working forest. Visit their sugar shack, warm up by a camp fire in the bush and catch a train or wagon ride back to the indoor pancake house.

Where: 122 Ashworth Road, Mount Albert, ON
When: Weekends beginning March 4th – mid April

White Meadow Farms
At White Meadow Farms near Niagara Falls, families can test their hand at pioneer wood-cutting, sample sweet taffy-on-snow and take a tractor wagon ride through the farm’s working sugarbush. In the forest, guides lead you through maple syrup’s rich history and you’ll have the chance to explore on your own (taffy in hand!) There’s also a petting farm and sweet shop – where you can get your fill of butter tarts and maple candies.

Where: 2519 Effingham Street, St. Catharines, ON L2R 6P7
When: Mar. 4 & 5, Mar. 11-19, Mar. 25 & 26, Apr. 1 & 2

Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival
East of the city, learn how maple syrup was made over 400 years ago. Located on the top of the Oak Ridges Moraine, the Purple Woods Maple Syrup Festival has horse-drawn carriage rides, a replica pioneer cabin, stilt walking and, of course, pancakes with maple syrup (they even sell GF pancakes!) If that’s not enough, satisfy your sweet tooth at their taffy shack.

Where: Purple Woods Conservation Area, 38 Coates Road, East Oshawa, ON
When: March 11-19, March 25-26 and April 1-2.
