April 2010 (Toronto, Ontario) Canada’s National Tower celebrates Earth Day by lighting green the evening of April 22nd beginning at dusk and by participating in the City of Toronto’s Annual 20-Minute Toronto Makeover on April 23rd.

The CN Tower holds a BOMA BESt, a national green building certification program recognizing the commitment to sustainable best practices at Canada’s National Tower presented by the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA) of Canada.

BOMA Best is a program recognizing environmental leadership in commercial buildings by setting standards for best practices and helping owners and managers reduce their carbon footprint. The Tower received a BOMA Best -- Level 1 certification which recognizes an organization’s green practices assessing environmental areas including: energy, water, waste reduction and site, indoor environment, environmental management systems and, emissions and effluents.

“The CN Tower is committed to delivering an excellent experience within a framework that considers the environment, promotes sustainable best practices in our business operations and complies with appropriate environmental legislation,” says Jack Robinson, chief operating officer at the CN Tower. “We’re very proud of this recognition for our proactive efforts to date.”

The Tower’s proactive greening efforts are part of a journey of short and long term goals and current initiatives include:

Waste Management and Recycling programs
Energy and Resource Conservation
Eco-conscious facilities management and operations
Reduced carbon footprint through local procurement and shipping efforts
