Waking Up Before Dawn: The Unexpected Key to Finding Purpose in Your Life

Wakin
With the summer quickly approaching and the school year coming to an end, I found myself at the time
of year where summer job-hunting begins.
Maybe it is the dreadful thought of going into another seven-month hibernation, but during the warmer season I always loved being outdoors and staying active in the sun as much as possible. With this prerequisite in mind, finding a job that would keep me active and challenge me, while simultaneously giving me the opportunity to stay outdoors seemed like an impossible deal to find.

Luckily, I came across landscaping and quickly got interested in pursuing the position as a landscaper for one of Ontario’s largest golf clubs. The job was perfect for me: it was outdoors, it required challenging physical tasks, as well as an artistic eye for detail. All was good, until I found out a shocking requirement that came as a package deal with the job: I needed to wake up at roughly 4 am everyday to make it to my morning shift!

At first, the idea of waking up that early seemed daunting. I had always been a night owl and the thought of giving up my late-night Netflix bin-ges was hard to swallow. But I knew I needed a change in my life. I wanted to find discipline and purpose, and I believed that waking up before dawn could be the catalyst for that change.

I never thought I would be a morning person, let alone wake up at 4 am every day. But something about seeing the sun rise every morning has recently transformed my life. I used to be someone who struggled to find the motivation to start my day, but now, waking up early has become a habit that I can't imagine breaking.

The first few mornings were challenging. I felt groggy and disoriented, and my body resisted the change. But I pushed through the discomfort and stuck to my new routine. I found that the key to success was going to bed earlier and creating a nighttime routine, including journaling and stretching, that would help me wind down and prepare for a restful night’s sleep.
As I continued to wake up early, I began to notice changes in myself. I felt more energized and focused throughout the day, and I found that I was able to accomplish more in a shorter amount of time.

I also discovered that waking up early gave me the gift of time. Time to meditate, time to exercise, and time to work on personal projects that I had put off for far too long. But perhaps the greatest gift that waking up before dawn has given me is a deeper sense of purpose. There is something magical about seeing the sun rise every morning. It reminds me that each day is a new beginning, and that I have the power to create the life that I want. It’s a daily reminder to be present, to be grateful, and to strive for greatness.
Of course, waking up early isn’t always easy. There are still mornings when my bed feels like the most comfortable place in the world, and the thought of getting up makes me want to hit the snooze button. But those moments have taught me an important life lesson: the limitations we set upon ourselves are often self-imposed. We have the power to push beyond our perceived limi-tations and achieve great things if we are willing to put in the work.

In conclusion, waking up at before dawn has been a life-changing experience for me. It has taught me the value of discipline, the importance of routine, and the power of purpose. It has reminded me that anything is possible if we put our minds to it, and that success often comes down to a simple formula: discipline and a schedule. I encourage anyone who is seeking a change in their life to consider waking up early. It may be challenging at first, but the benefits are im-measurable. And - who knows - you may just discover a deeper meaning to life that you never knew existed.
