Ontario Surpasses 500,000 Jobs Created Since the Recession

Province Marks Major Jobs Milestone as Economy Continues to Grow

Ontario marked a major job creation milestone -- more than half a million jobs have been created since the global recession in 2009. With September's job gains, employment in Ontario has increased by 514,300 since June 2009 -- Ontario's unemployment rate has declined from a recessionary high of 9.4 per cent in June 2009 to 7.1 per cent in September.
Ontario gained 24,700 net new jobs in September, including an increase of 19,100 full-time jobs. The province's youth (ages 15-24) employment increased by 12,600 jobs.
Fostering opportunities and creating jobs are part of the government's economic plan for Ontario. The four part plan is building Ontario up by investing in people's talents and skills, building new public infrastructure like roads and transit, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure retirement savings plan so everyone can afford to retire.

QUOTES
" Ontario has created more than 500,000 jobs since the recession which means our economic plan is working. Our government is focused on building an even stronger Ontario with more jobs, more opportunities and a more secure future. We will ensure the province continues to be a leader in creating jobs and in competing in an increasingly competitive global economy."
- Brad Duguid
Minister of Economic Development, Employment and Infrastructure
