Praying to a Landed-Immigrant God / Rugându-mă la un Dumnezeu emigrant is an anthology of the poems written in Romanian during Diana’s first 13 years in Canada and co-translated with Adam J Sorkin.
They testify to her journey at the crossroads of postcommunism and postcolonialism, hope and anxiety, “love in exile” and loneliness.
The book ends with “Deflowering English,” in Romanian and English, and translated into 7 more languages, exploring the relationship of Finnish, Persian, and Russian immigrants to English vs. the “deflowering” of other imperial languages, Dutch, French, German, and Spanish, elsewhere.

Bucharest-born Diana Manole immigrated in 2000 and is now proudly identifying herself as a hyphenated Romanian-Canadian award-winning writer, translator, theatre artist, and scholar.
She holds a PhD from the University of Toronto and has been teaching at Ontario universities since 2006.

The winner of the 2020 Very Small Verse Contest of the League of Canadian Poets, her recent poetry was published in English and/or in translation in 13 countries, including Canada, UK, US, France, Spain, China, and Romania.
