TORONTO — This winter, the Art Gallery of Ontario offers families all the ingredients for time well spent indoors – from artmaking to exploration and free youth workshops. Admission to the museum is always free for children and youth and includes special exhibitions David Blackwood: Myth & Legend, Edna Taçon: Verve & Decorum and Ranbir Sidhu: No Limits. Mark your calendars now for exciting free drop-in Family Day weekend and March Break programs. The AGO is open late on Friday until 9 p.m. and open every Saturday and Sunday between 10:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Registration is now open for all winter studio courses and workshops. March Break, spring and summer studio courses and workshops are on sale now for AGO Members and for public beginning January 23. AGO Members receive a discount on courses. Winter 2026 programming highlights for families and youth: Family Weekends Weekends are for families at the AGO, where admission is always free for AGO Members, Annual Pass holders, Indigenous Peoples, and visitors ages 25 and under! At the Dr. Mariano Elia Hands-On Centre, our youngest visitors can explore art-making activities, stories, and play-based learning. No registration needed. In Walker Court, AGO Art Carts provide visitors of all ages with free materials to make and do every Saturday and Sunday between 11:30 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. Summer Art Camp 2026 Registration Don’t miss out! AGO art camp returns in 2026, offering ten weeks of artful adventures for children and youth ages 5 to 13. Blending studio art, museum tours, fun, and games, returning this year is the dynamic two-week Leadership in Training program for youth ages 14 and 15. AGO members receive a discount on camps and enjoy early registration beginning January 28, 2026. Camps go on sale to everyone on January 30, 2026. Act fast as they sell out! Family Day Weekend: February 14 - 16, 2026 Serving up three days of Family Day fun, the AGO welcomes families to participate in free drop-in art making, creating David Blackwood-inspired prints and sculptures that will transform Walker Court into a winter wonderland. Events run daily between 10:30a.m. to 4:00 p.m. All programs are included in General Admission and admission is always free for Indigenous Peoples, AGO Members, Annual Pass holders and visitors aged 25 and under. Pick up a free AGO PLAY activity booklet at the entrance, and explore new artmaking challenges, scavenger hunts, discussion prompts, and games. From 10:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily, families can create glowing sculptures inspired by Ranbir Sidhu: No Limits and join in collaborative artmaking. Don’t miss live performances on March 14 and March 22 by Toronto’s favourite tween rockers, Lego Money. For a complete list of March Break programming, visit ago.ca/marchbreak2026 Youth Workshops • Happening weekly every Wednesday until February 4, the AGO in partnership with Neon Needle, invites youth ages 14 to 25 to join a free drop-in Rebel Youth Quilting Lab at 4 p.m. Materials are provided and participants will learn essential hand-sewing and quilting techniques and the radical history of quilting, while creating a collaborative artwork. For more details, visit ca/events/rebel-youth-quilting-lab. • Beginning Wednesday, February 11, 2026, at 4 p.m., and continuing for five weeks, the AGO in partnership with Bossy Bootcamp, presents Bossy Bootcamp: Krump Edition, a free drop-in dance program for youth ages 14 to 25. A powerful dance style from South Central L.A., Krump is rooted in resilience and expression. This program is led by Monica “Knives” Fern. No registration is required. Courses for children, youth, and families Studio art courses continue this winter at the Anne Tanenbaum Gallery School, with more than 30 course offerings for children, youth, and families, ranging from 8-week, 4-week and 1-day workshops. New courses this Winter include: • Be inspired by the art of David Blackwood, and explore Printmaking: Ink, Print, Repeat! a four-week class for children aged 8 to 10 and 11 to 13. This hands-on class will explore a range of dynamic techniques such as monoprinting, stamping, and collagraphs. All materials are included. Classes run Sundays beginning January 11, 2026, and Saturdays beginning February 7, 2026.
